Swimming is embedded as part of the P.E curriculum and is something we value as a school in a coastal town. To this end, we are committed to ensuring as amny pupils as possible are competent swimmers and able to perform self-rescue in life saving situations.
The main body of swimming lessons take place at the beginning of year 4, however, for those pupils who fail to achieve the national standard of being able to swim 25m unaided at the end of the ten sessions, an additional six lessons are provided using the Sports Premium to ensure these standards are achieved, or to improve water confidence .
Pupils in year 3 are also given introductory lessons in the Summer Term to allow the transition into year 4 lessons to be a smooth one. These lessons are also funded by Sports Premium.
In our current year 6 of 30 pupils, 27 children (90%) have been assessed as achieving the required competency standard for swimming according to the National Curriculum.
In our current year 5 of 43 pupils, 39 children (91%) have been assessed as achieving the required competency standard for swimming according to the National Curriculum.
