The Governors of Thrunscoe Primary Academy

A welcome from the Chair of Governors, Mr. David Copinger.

Hi. My name is David Copinger and I am currently the Chair of Governors at Thrunscoe Primary and Nursery Academy.
I first joined the Governing body as a Parent Governor, a few years ago, when my children were at Thrunscoe.  As they left I stayed on the Governing body so that I could help guide Thrunscoe along the best path possible so the children that attend get the best education and opportunities they can. In November 2011, when the previous Chair of Governors stood down, I put myself forward for the consideration of being elected as the new Chair. Fortunately I was successful and I have now completed a year as the Chair of Governors.
In that year Thrunscoe has seen some changes. The main one being that we are now an Academy. It was felt by the Governing body that as Thrunscoe had met the threshold to enable a conversion to be applied for, it was time to 'go for it' and convert. There has been a lot of hard work completed by members of staff at Thrunscoe to meet all the needs for the academy conversion. I feel very proud of the work they have undertaken and would hope all the parents/guardians of children at the academy feel the same way.
Having said that, as a governing body we will continue to strive to find ways in which the academy can best serve your children. Thrunscoe has always been a great place for children to come to and get the best possible start in their education, and now we are an academy we hope to make it even better.
All the Governors at the academy have specific roles and responsibilities. One of them being to be a link between the parents of the children at the academy and the Head Teacher/ teaching staff.  If anyone has any suggestions on how they feel the academy could be improved then please feel free to contact any of the governors or myself and we can then take them forward to the regular meetings we have.
I was shocked recently when I saw the result of a survey that had been conducted which showed a large number of parents are not aware of who the governing body members are. Please take time to look through this website and familiarise yourselves with the photos of the current governing body. One of the incentives I tried to bring in last year was the 'coffee mornings' after sharing assembly on the first two fridays of each month. This was an opportunity to meet some governors, have a chat about the academy, or just have a general chat. Unfortunately the idea needed a bit of a tweek so they have been put on hold for the time being but will start up again one day.
Thank you for taking the time to read through this and I hope you find this website very useful.
